METHUEN — The city is moving forward with a project to make a half-mile section of lower Broadway, also known as Route 28, more pedestrian and transit friendly.

On Monday night, the City Council approved more than $520,000 in contracts for the construction of high-visibility crosswalks, in-lane bus stops and pedestrian signals on Broadway from Park Street to the Lawrence line. The work will almost entirely be funded through grants and result in “significant pedestrian improvements,” according to Mayor D.J. Beauregard.
