BOSTON — Republican Brian Shortsleeve has jumped into the 2026 race for governor, becoming the latest hopeful to challenge Democratic Gov. Maura Healey as she seeks a second term in office.

Shortsleeve, a former MBTA head and venture capitalist, announced Monday that he is running “to bring common-sense conservative leadership to Beacon Hill” and vowed to prioritize cutting “wasteful” spending and taxes to help make Massachusetts more affordable.
